What is Devalia Safari Park?

Devalia Safari Park, officially known as the Gir Interpretation Zone, is a specially enclosed 412-hectare (over 1,000 acres) wildlife sanctuary established in 1997 by the Gujarat Forest Department. It was created to provide tourists an authentic opportunity to observe wild Asiatic Lions (Panthera leo persica) and native Gir fauna while minimizing human footfall in the core Gir National Park area.

Secured by high chain-link fencing, Devalia encapsulates a miniature cross-section of all Gir forest habitats—ranging from dry deciduous teak wood forests and acacia scrublands to open savanna grasslands and natural water bodies.

Protected Sanctuary Enclosure: Designed to harbor a self-sustaining wild prey-predator population.
Native Flora: Preserves dry deciduous teak trees (Tectona grandis), Flame of the Forest (Butea monosperma), and acacia groves.
High Sightings: Provides an almost 100% guarantee of observing Asiatic Lion prides in natural surroundings.

Natural Food Chain Balance

Devalia maintains an ecologically calculated ratio of carnivores (Asiatic Lions & Leopards) and native herbivores (Chital, Sambhar, Nilgai, and Wild Boars) ensuring natural prey hunting and territorial behavior.

Orientation & Taxidermy Museum

The entry zone houses a state-of-the-art orientation hall exhibiting preserved lion taxidermy, forest habitat dioramas, and educational documentary films for students and tourists.

Wildlife Conservation Breeding Hub

Serving as a vital rescue and research center, Devalia assists wildlife veterinarians in monitoring lion pride health and genetic diversity within Saurashtra.
